ART CRITIC, NEW YORK
Often cantankerous, in the best way, Saltz is the rare critic to bridge the print/digital divide. On his @jerrysaltz Instagram feed, which has around 108,000 followers, he holds no punches, poking fun at everyone from MoMA’s Klaus Biesenbach (who, it should be noted, he has also posted a selfie with) to Fox News. Earlier this year, he won the American Society of Magazine Editors’ National Magazine Award in the Columns and Category—a first for an art critic. In April, New York published as a cover story his review of the new Whitney Museum and its inaugural show, “America is Hard to See.” Weaving his personal experiences with museums throughout, the must-read begins, “I’ve spent much of my life in and in love with museums.” Not just cantankerous, Saltz has an energy that’s is contagious.
