We are looking for a full-time assistant to the CEO of Surface Media. The ideal candidate will have experience in executive administration and an interest in contemporary design and luxury brands. 


  • Complete all tasks as requested by CEO
  • Coordinate with Editorial and Sales teams to make sure the CEO has the editorial plan sheets for each issue 
  • Compile and maintain contact lists (for personal mailings, Design Dialogues, company events, etc.)
  • Coordinate CEO's calendar and schedule meetings 
  • Book flights and arrange travel for CEO
  • Help CEO keep inbox organized and clean
  • Return calls to CEO as requested
  • Execute all mailings and messengering as requested by CEO

Surface Media is seeking an enterprising Digital Marketing Director to develop robust digital partnerships and consistent online revenue streams to support the growing portfolio of Surface Media products, including Surface, Watch Journal, and various Surface Studios projects.


  • Develop social media, email marketing, native content, and other online platforms into powerful revenue streams
  • Convert existing print/events brand partners into omniplatform brand partners
  • Identify partner opportunities, create custom activation strategies, and execute those strategies, bringing in new partners at all levels of spending

Surface Media is seeking a multitalented producer to support the daily operations of our website. This person will work with the Digital Director and the editorial team to bring engaging content—from brief stories to multimedia features—to our audience.


  • Manage the production and scheduling of stories across web, mobile, and social media
  • Develop and manage email campaigns
  • Manage audience database in coordination with the Circulation department
  • Facilitate the production of video and podcast content
  • Create reports analyzing key engagement metrics
  • Work with the Marketing department to promote stories, events, and other Surface projects

Surface is seeking to hire a full-time public relations manager to add to our growing team. This person will be responsible for fielding media questions, pitching stories to outside media, preparing media kits and organizing press conferences. Additionally, this person will be responsible for developing and sending client newsletters and handling any emergency communications.



  • We would expect two to three media placements in major consumer and trade publications for each of our 10 issues per year.
  • At least one story every quarter of the “fluffy” variety,  such as “Dual Review” in T magazine; “What’s in Your Bag” in the Wall Street Journal; “Corner Office” in the New York Times; “How Did I Get Here?” and “What I Wear to Work” in Bloomberg Businessweek.


  • A main initiative of Surface has been to increase our already stellar distribution, with a focus on hotel distribution.
  • Helping to secure in-room partnerships for the magazine’s distribution in luxury hotels around the world to add to our portfolio.


The public relations manager will be responsible for promoting all of the Surface events. Some sample events and responsibilities:

This person will be responsible for managing multiple social media accounts a platforms day-to-day, developing social media revenue streams, and collaborating with both editorial and marketing teams.


  • Manage Surface Media social media accounts day-to-day, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Pinterest, posting content and responding to the Surface community

Surface Media is seeking a skilled video producer to help spearhead our multimedia efforts. This person will work closely with the Executive Digital Editor to build a cohesive digital video strategy and will shoot, produce, and edit digital video on a regular basis. 


  • Create dynamic videos for Surface Media (Surface & Watch Journal) from start to finish (shoot, produce, edit, and distribute)
  • Produce videos of Surface Media’s events, such as Design Dialogues, including relevant social cuts
  • Developing the proper back-end tools to upload and manage video production
  • Generate unique short videos for Surface social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter
  • Strategize how to integrate video production into stories being written for the magazine and the web


  • Adept at shooting video with a range of equipment, including various cameras, audio gear, and lighting set ups
  • Skilled with standard editing software (Premier, AVID, etc.)
