The season's latest offering of masculine scents provides a bevy of options ranging from musky, to spicy, fresh, and intense. Valentino's new iteration of the popular Uomo scent created by Olivier Poige has top notes of bergamot and myrtle; middle notes of cedar, hazelnut, and leather, and base notes of cedar and coffee. The result is a refined, rustic, scent fit for a night out.
Shown: Oud Fleur, Tom Ford. Spicebomb, Viktor & Rolf. Uomo Edition Noire, Valentino. Pour Homme Extreme, Bottega Veneta. Acqua Di Gio Profumo, Giorgio Armani. Reveal, Calvin Klein.
The Land of Oud
Oud, also known as agarwood, receives its deep and powerful smell from a mold culture that infects the Aquaria tree. The resulting resin is highly sought after, prized for its character and rarity; it pairs well with spicy notes and surprisingly, even floral notes. For a classic reinvention of its venerable Polo scent, Ralph Lauren has taken an Indian oud and blended it with vetiver and guaiac wood.
Shown: Super Oud, Polo. Oud Immortel, Byredo. Oud Royal, Armani Privé. Indonesian Oud, Ermengildo Zegna.
While florals are hardly new to the world of fragrance, the season's offerings provide a sweet and exciting tangent to the classic category. Suzhou, a city in mainland China, boasts numerous gardens and peonies that comprise the main ingredient in Armani Privé's joyous smelling scent, Pivoine Suzhou. Slight citrus notes are blended with touches of patchouli and musk for an irresistibly pretty scent.
Shown: Original, Anja Rubik. Eau Purielle, Diptyque. Punk Bouquet, & Other Stories. Replica Tea Escape, Maison Martin Margiela. Pivoine Suzhou, Armani Privé. Palermo, Byredo. B, Balenciaga.
Contradictions can result in wonderful and appealing result. La Parfumerie Moderne's Desarment is a wonderful lilac fragrance that pairs a white musk contrasted by leathery notes. This extremely feminine scent becomes elevated and complex through its unlikely pairing.
Shown: Rose Ikebana, Hermès. Moderne Desarment, La Parfumerie. Love Story, Chloé. Daisy Sorbet Edition, Marc Jacobs. La Panthère, Cartier. Park Avenue South, Bond No. 9.
Notes of floral, spices, and ouds mark this spring's most covetable fragrances.
